As a registered provider of Pre-school education, we follow the “Early Learning Goals” as laid out in the EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE. These are a series of monitored stages of learning, understanding and development, designed for children from Pre-school age through to the end of the Reception Class.
There are six “Areas of Learning” (described below). Children are offered a 5-10 minute small group activity each day. This activity is carefully designed to encompass one of these areas of learning, according to your child’s level of ability and stage of development. Please remember though; our ethos is learning through play. All our activities are designed to be fun, and no child is ever forced to participate in anything he/she does not want to do.
Personal, Social and Emotional (PSE)
This area of development affects the way children learn, behave and relate to others. We encourage the children to form close relationships with others in their Keyworker groups through regular “circle times”.  Activities make children think about the feelings of others, how they interact with others and helps to build confidence should it be lacking.

Mathematical Development (MD)
Children are encouraged to use basic mathematical language in their play as modelled by our staff.  The opportunity to count arises often! How many children in our Yellow Group today? How many spots has this dog got? etc. When appropriate to a child’s ability, number symbols, shapes, patterns and size language are introduced.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World (KUW)
This area covers aspects such as ICT, operating simple machinery and the world we live in. We are fortunate to have access to two desktop computers within the setting and the children love getting to grips with the Interactive Whiteboard, manipulating the content for themselves.  Children regularly play with programmable “BEE BOTS”, encouraging direction skills. Our Pre-school Camera was bought with little fingers in mind - they really enjoy taking the photographs and then seeing what they have captured once it is printed off.
Physical Development (PD)
We have a large range of outdoor play equipment; bikes, trikes, scooters, Diddycars etc, as well as bats, balls, dancing ribbons pompoms etc. Our outdoor area has a wooden playhouse, pop up tents and tunnels are used regularly throughout the warmer months. In a separate secure area, we have a purpose built “climbing area” surrounded by regulation soft outdoor flooring.

Creative Development (CD)
Soft dough, painting, mark making, gluing, clay, threading, printing, singing and musical instrument interpretation are just some of the many ways we encourage children to express themselves creatively. Creative activities are always available for the children to explore during their free play and many of our adult led activities include creativity that might need a little more assistance!
Products of the childrens creativity are used to create wall displays, insert int heir personal learning journey's or are sent home for you to share!

Communication, Language & Literacy (CLL).  Children are encouraged to look at, and share stories and books, sing songs and say rhymes, both in small groups and as a whole group. Mark Making equipment is always accessible for the children to use in free play and organised activities. We encourage children to talk about their ideas and describe what they are doing to extend their vocabulary.
